60 Second Spotlight: Julia Brooks
March 3, 2017
Junior Julia Brooks sang three solos at the pops concert last Saturday and while she has always loved singing, she really got into her freshman year when she joined choir.
How many solos did you perform? What songs?
“I had three solos. I sang ‘Freddy My Love’ with the musical cast because I’m playing Marty in the musical. I sang a small solo with G-Harmony for the song ‘21 Guns’ by Green Day, and I sang the song ‘Feeling Good’ with the jazz band.”
Did you chose to do all the solos?
“I auditioned and was chosen to sing my solos for ‘21 Guns’ and ‘Feeling Good’, but the directors of the musical chose for me to sing ‘Freddy My Love.’ ”
Were you nervous? If so how did you get over your nerves?
“I was nervous right before I performed, but once I start singing I forget about the nerves and just have fun.”
How did you get into singing?
“I have always enjoyed music and singing along to the radio, but I didn’t join choir until my freshman year of high school. That’s when I found out I have a huge passion for singing and performing all types of music.”
Why should people attend the Pops Concert?
“The Pops Concert is so much fun to watch. Everyone has so much energy when they perform. The choir sings and dances and all of the songs we perform are either pop music or musical theater so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. It’s also a more casual concert that has concessions and better seating. Pops is a great event to go to with friends since it’s right at school and it’s very exciting.”
