Girls Volleyball Team Looks to Win 4th Straight Conference Championship

September 29, 2017
The Greendale Girls Volleyball team is off to a hot start this year, with a record of 19-9, and a 5-0 record in the Woodland Conference. The team is currently ranked 21st in the state.
In their first tournament of the season, the girls took fifth place in The Joust, which is considered the hardest tournament in the entire state.
Senior Jess Grabowski was happy with the team’s place in the tourney.
“Although we only lost two players from last year, we lost a lot of experience between them (Dani Litzau and Alyssa R). It was a good start for us, and hopefully we can continue to play better as the season goes on,” Grabowski said.
Greendale returns a steady and mature lineup, bringing back all but two players. The captains, senior Corinne Bialo, junior Kayce Litzau, and Grabowski, all are hoping for another Woodland Conference championship.
“If we can win conference again this year, it’ll be a four-peat and a perfect way to end the seniors careers. Although conference isn’t our main goal, it’s one step from our goal, so it’s important for us to not lose a conference game,” Grabowski said.
The main goal, for the team, is to three-peat and return to the Resch Center, where the tournament is held.
Junior Ruby Anderson is hoping for the three-peat. “Going to state last year was a lot of fun, even though we lost in the first round,” Anderson said. “We’re hoping to get back to the tournament and get over the hump of the first round, since we’ve lost in the first round the last two years. I think we can make it to state, and beat any team in the state, if we’re playing our best volleyball.”
Senior Annie Pulizos agrees with Anderson. “We have a good enough team to go back to state, which is our goal,” Pulizos said. “We have an experienced team, with all but 2 of us going to state last year. We feel we can beat any team on any night and that confidence will take us to state.”
With only a month or so left in the entire season, the team hopes to stay hot and return to the state tournament in November.
