Badgers beat Miami for Orange Bowl Victory
January 5, 2018
The Wisconsin Badgers capped off a 12-1 regular season by defeating the Miami Hurricanes 34-24 in Miami in the New Year’s Six Orange Bowl. They finished with 13 wins for the first time in school history.
Freshman running back Johnathan Taylor set the FBS Freshman (Football Bowl Series) record for most rushing yards in a season, passing Adrian Peterson, and finishing with 1,977.
Sophomore quarterback Alex Hornibrook was scrutinized for most of the season, and especially scrutinized during the Big Ten Championship after throwing 2 interceptions and leading his team in a loss to Ohio State 27-21, while also losing a spot in the CFP and an attempt at an undefeated season.
Hornibrook showed everyone why he was the Badger’s quarterback by throwing for 258 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Senior Jack Ehemann was happy about the way Hornibrook played.
“I was really mad at Hornibrook after the way he played against Ohio State because his interception at the end cost Wisconsin the game, but the way he bounced back was really impressive and I was glad he played good when he really had to,” Ehemann said.
Sophomore Sammy Muth was also happy about the Badgers win.
“I was happy Wisconsin won because they had a really good season and not making the playoffs sucked, but winning the Orange Bowl was the next best thing because they played Miami in Miami and won, which was really impressive,” Muth said. “The best part of the game was when the Badgers scored a touchdown and a player ripped a fake chain off of his teammate.”
Wisconsin has a lot of their starting group on both sides returning next year, and will definitely contend for a National Championship next year.
Freshman Sam Sommerfeld believes that as well.
“With a lot of their starting lineup coming back next year, and going 12-1 this year, I think Wisconsin has a realistic chance to go undefeated again and actually make the playoffs,” Sommerfeld said.
Only time will tell, but for Wisconsin, the future looks very bright, and after winning the Orange Bowl, the Badgers will have another confidence booster to give themselves next year.
