Exams begin next Wednesday

Next week students will take their Semester 1 Exams, so now begins the preparation, sleepless nights, and the last-minute studying by students who are striving for a common goal: a solid exam grade to finish off the semester.

Exams will begin Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 a.m. Students will potentially take an exam for their first three hour classes. After that, Thursday and Friday, Jan. 18 and 19, will consist of their remaining subjects, with two exams each day.

Freshman students are nervous heading into their first exams of their high school career.

“I have been studying 10 to 15 minutes every day to prepare myself, but I’m really nervous about taking the exams,” freshman Katie Ramirez said.

Those who have experienced exams before feel much more prepared.

“I am going to study by working through all my packets and making flashcards to help me. I will also be studying with my friends,” sophomore Kelsey Sodemann said.

Students may stress out over exams, but in the end, all they have to do is survive three days of testing to finish out Semester 1 of the 2017-2018 school year.

“The key to studying is to use the study guides the teachers create, and use your notes. Also study prior to the day before your exam,” social studies teacher Nicole Mobley said.

All in all, exam week may be stressful, but students will feel better about their grades if they put in the time to organize and study.

“For studying, my usual plan is to start two weeks before, starting out by organizing everything, figuring out what needs to get done prior to each exam by making a checklist, then making Quizlets and study guides,” junior Alyssa Dobbs said. “The days leading up involve more studying and preparation. If teachers give you study material, I recommend doing it because it is probably a good preview of what the exam could be like. Just a reminder to study in smaller chunks over a few days instead of cramming the night before!”
