GHS Forensics Team Begins Competition Season

The season has just started for GHS forensics team and they had their first meet this past Saturday at Badger High School at Lake Geneva.

Six of 23 students competed, each in different categories. Freshmen Alicia Garcia competed in Solo Humorous Acting.

“Forensics is fun: the coach (David Freitag) is very nice as well as the other members of the team,” she said.

This was Alicia’s first year. For others, it wasn’t.

“This season for me I’ve decided to do more personal topic and really try and convey the emotions my pieces have as well as the feelings people who go through depression feel,” junior Michaela Sarenec said.

The team has 8 to 9 tournaments in total this season.

The season has just started, but we are off to a great start!” forensics coach David Freitag said.

For some of the competitors, the category they choose means something to them.

“I’m in poetry because I believe there is a poem out there that knows exactly how you feel. Poetry is universal and brings so many people together. Is it music without the instrumental parts,” Sarenac said.

Some started off the season rocky but they hope to improve as the season goes on.

“My first year of forensics hasn’t been the most amazing, but I’m optimistic for the future,” Garcia said.

The team will have their next tournament this Saturday at Union Grove High School and they will host their own tournament on Feb. 19 here at GHS.

Students will continue to work on polishing and perfecting their speeches and performances. This is a process that continues throughout the entire season.” Freitag said.
