GHS Students and Staff Enjoy Winter Olympics
February 16, 2018
The Winter Olympics 2018 in Pyeongchang Korea is well underway and several medals have been handed out the past week to team USA along with many other countries.
Snowboarding is many students’ favorite event in the Winter Olympics.
“I really enjoy watching the snowboarding events, especially since Shaun White and Red Gerard both walked away from their competitions with gold which was cool to watch,” senior Devin Biskupski said.
“I love watching the snowboarding, because I enjoy snowboarding myself. I find the cross snowboarding really fun and nerve racking to watch,” junior Kristen Gilmore said.
Senior Aaron Xiong enjoys the snowboarding and speed skating.
“My favorite part is the snowboarding because I like watching Shaun white and others perform tricks,” he said. “I love speed skating because it’s smooth looking and i like how fast they get and it’s super entertaining.”
The highlight for many Olympic fans is the figure skating. Team USA won the bronze in the team event behind the strong performances of Adam Rippon and Mirai Nagasu.
“My favorite part of the Winter Olympics is pairs figure skating. I love when they do the throwing of the partner and the audience all clenches to make sure they land good. I find these events really cool,” senior Sarah Gordon said.
“I love watching the pairs skating and ice dancing events. They’re so interesting and you can never tell what they’re gonna do next which is awfully exciting,” Gilmore said.
Science teacher John Kozicke like one of the more uncommon sports.
“I love watching curling. It can be boring but so entertaining at the same time,” he said.
Some people don’t have one favorite sport, they just like the Olympics overall.
“While watching the opening ceremony I thought that all the teams walking in was fun to watch so I could see the Olympians. I also enjoy all the events because they just are so entertaining and fun to watch,” freshman Johnny Hottinger said.
