Students Spend Snowy Break in the Cinema

Over spring break many GHS students and staff went to the theater to see movies. The new movies were of many different genres such as horror, comedy, drama, etc.
One of the movies is called Ready Player One, a movie based on the book of the same name about a young teenage boy who lives in a collapsing world where everyone around him is constantly playing in a virtual world.
“That movie would be cool to see because I like to play video games with friends and that’s what that movie is about,” sophomore Seth Taylor said.
Another new movie is Midnight Sun. This movie is about a young girl who is allergic to the sun and can only go out at night. One night she meets a boy and struggles between her illness and experiencing love for the first time.
“It was different. I didn’t expect the ending,” junior Savannah Deloney said.
Most people seemed to really like the horror film, A Quiet Place, starring Emily Blunt and John Krasinski.
“I thought the movie was super suspenseful and it was my first ‘scary movie’ that I saw in theaters so it was a new experience,” sophomore Van Nguyen said.
Although she liked it, there are a few things she would change.
“If I could change something, it would be more elaboration on the origin of the monster. It was really good, but I thought that was kind of interesting so I wanted to know more about it,” Nguyen said.
Another new movie, Love, Simon, tells the story of a teenage boy who comes out as being gay and the challenges and struggles he faces and how he overcomes them.
“I did like the movie. I thought it was sweet. It was also pretty funny,” social studies teacher Cheryl Kingma-Kiekhofer said.
Although Black Panther is not new to theaters, it is still making a lot of money at the box office.
“The movie was really unique compared to other movies. It showed a different perspective of a culture from another country, which makes the movie even more unique,” junior Nawel Daadoucha said.
