Trump orders attack on Syria

Last week president Donald Trump approved an attack against Syrian research, storage and military facilities after a suspected chemical attack by President Bashar al-Assad near Damascus killed more than 40 people.

The U.S did not act alone in its attack, working together with the U.K and France to collectively execute the attack. The combined effort was meant to show Western nations the power/faces of the big three and the consequences of breaking international law.

While the attack put the U.S. at risk of getting more involved into the Syrian war and raised the concern of a possible confrontation with Russia and Iran, nations who are supporting Assad with their military forces,President Trump considered his actions to be justified.

Shortly after the strike Trump  tweeted regarding its success and gave a thanks to the nations that helped.

“A perfectly executed strike last night. Thank you to France and the United Kingdom for their wisdom and the power of their fine Military,” Trump said in his tweet. “Could not have had a better result. Mission Accomplished!”

Following the strike, Trump also sent a message to Russia and Iran, Syria’s aid, according to the New York Times.

“To Iran and to Russia I ask: What kind of a nation wants to be associated with the mass murder of innocent men, women and children?” Trump said. “The nations of the world can be judged by the friends they keep. No nation can succeed in the long run by promoting rogue states, brutal tyrants and murderous dictators.”

Russia was quick to respond to Trump with not so kind words and previewed what the next move would be after the strike.

“We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences. Insulting the president of Russia is unacceptable and inadmissible,” the Russian Ambassador to United States said to the New York Times.

The attack surprised many around the country who weren’t up to date or well informed about the problem at hand.“I hadn’t heard much about Syria for a while and then all of a sudden there were the chemical weapon attacks, and I was surprised by how quickly we responded to it,” junior Mya Colon said.
