Last Friday was a big day for Marvel fans as Avengers: Infinity War was finally released in theatres.

“I have been looking forward to this movie since they announced that it would be a thing,” junior Gavin Steele said.

Senior Aaron Xiong was really excited to see the movie as well.

“I had been looking forward to it ever since the announcement came out,” he said.

Freshman Lauren Peterson is a huge fan and has also been waiting for a while.

“I have been looking forward to the movie’s release. I’ve been a huge Marvel fan since I was younger, so this was very exciting,” she said.

Infinity War is about the Avengers (superheroes such as: Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and more) uniting together to battle the villain, Thanos; and all their lives depend on this completed mission. Many GHS students, such as freshman Briahna Lynch, enjoyed the movie because of its cliffhanger and were surprised by the number of deaths.

“I enjoyed the movie because it was a good setup for the second movie that will be coming out soon. The amount of deaths surprised me,” she said.

Steele also enjoyed the movie, but instead liked it because of the risks the filmmakers made.

“I enjoyed the movie because it really pushed the limits that I thought they wouldn’t.  They took risky moves to ensure a great movie,” he said. “I was surprised at the sheer amount of characters they had killed off due to the fact that each and every character provides marvel with income, whether it be merchandise or movies.”

Xiong also liked the movie and enjoyed the ending.

“I really like Marvel so I really enjoyed the movie. It was really nice and long. My favorite part was the battle on Titan. The ending really surprised me,” he said.

Peterson enjoyed being able to see all of her favorite superheroes in the same movie and was surprised by Red Skull.

“I did enjoy the movie. I was very interesting to see all the characters from the different movies come together. It was also very funny,” she said. “It was surprising to see Red Skull make an appearance. I didn’t think he was a character that would ever come back.”

Students describe their favorite Marvel characters.

“My favorite character is Peter Quill because he makes the movies very funny,” Lynch said.

Steele bases his favorite superheroes off of their abilities and the actors who play them.

“My favorite character in the MCU would have to be Thor or Spiderman.  Thor is just amazing and really can kick butt in any situation. His hammer was cool, but now he has StormBreaker, the axe, and has taken his powers to another level,” he said. “I also like Spiderman because I believe he is the most relatable character in the MCU and Tom Holland does an excellent job of making the audience feel the emotion that he is conveying.”

Peterson admires the character Wanda Maximoff’s personality.

“One of my favorite characters is Wanda Maximoff. She is really caring and her love for Vision is heartbreaking. Her powers are also amazing and the things she can do,” she said.

Infinity War has made over $857 million at the box office globally according to ew.com. This passes up Wonder Woman by $35 million and Justice League by $199 million.
