Upcoming AP Testing Excites Students
May 5, 2018
AP Exams are coming up next week and after a hard years worth of content students are ready to wrap things up.
For all of the classes teachers have been doing things year-round to help students prepare for the Exam.
“In AP Lang, really everything we do helps students learn the core skills of rhetorical analysis, synthesis, and argument,” English Teacher Jennifer Hussa said. “We’ve had students do timed writings, take practice tests outside of school, and work on a research paper that really challenges them in all three main areas. We’ll also provide some practical tips as we get closer to the test.”
Although students have been preparing yearound, and are taking multiple AP classes, some aren’t taking the exams for all their classes,
“I’m taking three AP classes right now, but I only decided to take APUSH because I love history,” Anna Nakonechna said. “It’s the most relevant in my life because it correlates to what I will possibly major in.”
It’s extremely important for students to remain calm and believe in themselves during the exam, because it is long and can get difficult, but teachers have prepared students with all the resources they need to do well and hopefully get college credit.
“The test can help students earn college credit and/or earn an exemption from certain specific college courses, depending on the college policies,” Hussa said. “But for our course, the skills that students learn are more important than the exam itself: students will always need to be able to use language effectively in a variety of settings and for a variety of purposes.”
