Students Prepare to Make Money for the Summer
May 18, 2018
This summer many students are taking on a new seasonal job or increasing the hours of their spring job to make money for college and other expenses.
Junior Jackson Zgola likes to spend time outside, so what is more perfect than a job outdoors?
“I work as a lifeguard at the Village Club and I also teach swim lessons. I work about four times and about six week and about 6 hour shifts. I chose this job to make money and it is easy for me since I am a swimmer,” Zgola said.
Like Zgola junior Noah Radka also works at two jobs but enjoys the one outside a lot.
“I work at Ray’s Butcher shop and I do mowing/landscaping in summer. I work around 4-7 hours at Rays and about 3 hours while mowing. I do these both around 5 days a week. I chose to work here because they pay good and they are really flexible with hours,” Radka said.
Junior Meagan Mevis has two indoor jobs for the summer and is happy with both of them.
“I work at Olive Garden as a host and I work at Zastrow Chiropractic as a Chiropractic assistant. I got the job as a host because it was easy, and I got the Chiropractic job through a family friend,” said Mevis. “I work at Olive Garden around 6 hour shifts and I work at the chiropractic place around 4 hours. I work around 3-4 days a week. I chose to work at Olive Garden because my really close friend works there and to make good money.”
Some students are continuing to work at the job they have since winter but just increasing their hours.
“I work at Maurices in Southridge Mall. I work 5 hour shifts around 5 days a week. I like it because I get paid $10 an hour and get really good hours,” senior Bojana Nenadic said.
Many students work at senior citizen homes.
“I work at Harbour Village about 4-5 days a week. It’s a good job because my friends are there and because it is easy,” junior Jane Godzdowiak said.
“I chose to work at ACE hardware and The Rock complex. I picked these two jobs to secure the bag and I have gotten good life lessons at ACE hardware. The Rock complex is fun to work at. I work around 4 hours on week days and then 8 hours on weekends,” senior Ricardo Rosales said.
