Spirit Week Helps Kick Off Homecomg Week
September 17, 2018
While Homecoming falls early this year students were extremely excited going into spirit week as they showcased their school spirit in many ways.
Spirit week kicked off last week, and students were encouraged to participate by dressing to the theme of the day each day of the week. The school voted via twitter for Monday to be Pajama day, Tuesday was generation day where freshmen were babies, sophomores were toddlers, juniors adults and seniors were the elderly. Wednesday was class color day, followed by neon day and ending the week with Greendale pride day.
In addition, the Greendale Athletics Department hosted challenges throughout the week where students could participate by doing the challenge for the day and then submitting a picture to the instagram page.
Students tend to go all out for their favorite themed day
“I was looking forward to Generation Day the most because I was really excited to show off my elderly costume, and I got a ton of compliments, so my intensity paid off!,” senior Rachel Young said.
Despite personal opinions, most students agree that spirit week is an important tradition and are excited to participate or see others participate.
“Spirit week is fun and makes the early weeks of school less intense. I think it’s dying out with the newer classes but I really like seeing people participate,” senior Ahmely Bonne-Annee said.
Most years students like the themes chosen, but some students have their own thoughts about themes if they could choose them themselves.
“My favorite spirit day is class color day because everyone participates and it makes it more fun,” junior Rosemary Gosseck-Mcneal said. “If I could choose a theme it would be a Toga one because it looks very fun and it’s not your classic spirit day theme.”
