Lego Star Wars Holiday Special a Treat for All Ages

Sarah Mills, Staff Writer

The new Lego Star Wars Holiday Special movie was released on Disney Plus on November 17 that has had a lot of Star Wars fans talking. The movie begins with Rey training Finn on how to be a Jedi but she can’t seem to teach him very well. Rey spends her time reading Jedi texts and doing all she can in order to train Finn but she just can’t seem to teach him properly.

She then comes across a text that says “in order to know the future of a Jedi you must know the past”and she discovers that there is a crystal hidden in a temple that allows people to time travel, but this crystal only works on a special holiday called “light day”. It just so happens that the day she discovers this is light day and her friends try to get her to stay and celebrate, but she is determined to train Finn.

She then finds the crystal and travels through time to watch Luke and Anakin train to be Jedi’s while also making stops in other big moments throughout all of the Star Wars movies. When traveling back in time to the Death Star, Darth Vader notices that Rey is there and chases her through the portal in order to obtain the crystal. This fight continues through many different portals and big moments in Star Wars history.

I believe that the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special was created in order to attract a new, younger audience, but is also a light hearted, fun movie for existing fans. This wasn’t a continuation of the series, rather just a fun and unrealistic side story for fans. The fact that this movie finds a neat way to  incorporate the new and the old Star Wars characters makes it very intriguing for fans.

Along the way on her journey throughout time, a young Luke Skywalker, unaware of his destiny, is sucked through a portal and brought along the way. I liked that they did this because it shows a new Jedi and an old Jedi teaming up to defeat Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine.

This isn’t necessarily the type of movie that I would go out of my way to watch because I am not a very big fan of Star Wars and it seems like somewhat of a kids movie. With that being said, I did still find some enjoyment in the movie because of the fact it included a lot of scenes from the old Star Wars movies that I have seen before.
