Release of PS5 Comes with Ups and Downs
February 9, 2021
The release of the Playstation 5 has been highly anticipated by people of all ages all around the country, however actually being able to obtain the console has been a difficult task.
After waiting since November 2013 (release of the PS4), people could not wait for the new console. With plenty of upgraded software and features on the new console, such as: near instant load times, cross generation gameplay, and also the ability to be played in 8k.
After hearing all of the upgrades, students like senior Nick Churchill were excited to get their hands on it. However the reality of getting a PS5 has been much harder than originally thought.
Many different things have impacted the ability to get a PS5, the Covid-19 pandemic, resellers, and bots. “The biggest struggle is dealing with bots and just getting put into the Playstation Direct queue,” Churchill said. “ I think that covid has impacted some aspects of the release like promotions in stores but not the amount they are producing….it is a joke that people are buying more than one and selling it for more than $1,000. I know most people would rather just wait till there are enough in store to buy them at the regular price.”
However those who have been able to get their hands on the PS5 have raved about the upgrade. One student who was able to get his hands on the new PS5 was senior Connor Kramp. “It came out on Nov. 12 and I tried every day and luckily I got it Dec. 3 from Target,” he said.
The PS5 has met and further exceeded all expectations of its performance, with games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Marvel’s Spiderman, and Madden 21 already much better than previous iterations on the previous console. “I think the speed is incredibly different and it is much faster,” Kramp said. “Most likely black ops Cold War because the graphics are amazing and it’s just super fun to play.”
Senior Joe Toetz is another student waiting to get his hands on the new PS5 but has been able to enjoy Black Ops Cold War on the PS4. “Playing the game on PS4 is still fun, but hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on the PS5 and experience it on a completely different level,” he said.
Overall the PS5 has been a pain to get your hands on, however when you’re able to get a hold of the console it has proven to be more than worth it.
