The NBA All Star Weekend is upon us
March 5, 2021
The 2020-21 NBA season has been a quite successful one, despite Covid-19. But as the season went on a question started being asked across the league: what would All-Star weekend look like?
They have made a decision and this year’s All-Star weekend will be one day, this Sunday, March 7, and will include the Taco Bell Skills Challenge, MTN Dew 3-Point Contest, then followed by the All-Star Game which will include the AT&T Slam Dunk Contest at halftime.
It will be a very interesting day in Atlanta to say the least. Although every year’s All-Star game is a buzz around the world, some players aren’t as excited as normal years. Giannis Antetokoumpo, an All-Star starter, shared his opinions saying he has “zero energy and excitement,” and said he would rather spend time with his family.
Even though many players don’t necessarily want to play, the NBA still decided to continue this tradition. Kawhi Leonard, an All-Star starter, suggested it was for the league to make money since they are already losing 40 percent revenue due to no fans being allowed at games.
For fans, there are a mix of opinions that are being displayed. Senior Will Brust, spoke on the topic. “Honestly, I really don’t care if there was an All-Star game this year. Usually it feels more special but this year it doesn’t feel important,” he said.
On the other hand, unior Jordan Gruel is excited for the game. “For the All-Star game this year, I really wanted it. I feel that it’s been a boring year with the NBA, so this game will hopefully spark it up,” he said.
This year’s All-Star will be different this year, but hopefully it will still be exciting as it was in the past. Covid-19, the death of NBA legends, and much more have affected the All-Star game.
