Happy Haunting!

Halloween is coming up faster than you think and one of the best things about Halloween is all the costumes and the trick or treating. Halloween is a very highly anticipated holiday where people get to dress up in their favorite costumes and have fun with family and friends, and of course eat lots of candy.
People definitely have different opinions on what candy is best. “M&Ms are the most overrated candy. After eating a few they begin to not even taste like chocolate. They are just disgusting,” senior Colin Schuster said. “Kit Kats are the best candy.”
Senior Logan Hopper agrees. “Kit Kats are easily my favorite candy on Halloween. They are so so so bussin,” he said.
The costumes on Halloween are what puts the cherry on top, and there are so many different ones to choose from. People can go as their favorite superhero, tv character, movie star, athlete, etc.
It’s a huge decision what costume to wear and you have to make the right choice because Halloween is only once a year. English teacher Joe Belknap, remembers his favorite costume. “ As a kid, I saved money to buy what was an impressive looking latex Batman mask, one modeled after Michael Keaton’s 1989 Batman film,” he said. “While it looked great on a display rack, it was too big for me; I could never get the eyes and mouth to line up with my own. I mostly didn’t care, though. I strutted around my block, convinced that I looked exactly like Batman. Evil doers beware.”
Sophomore Noah Dineen also remembers his favorite costume as a kid. “My favorite costume as a kid was Spider-Man. I loved Spider-Man as a kid and I always used to dress like him around the house, so when Halloween came around, I definitely knew I wanted to be Spider-Man,” he said.
Costumes are memorable and junior Zach Collins can’t forget his favorite costume. “My favorite costume was when I dressed up as Optimus Prime from Transformers. I used to be obsessed with Transformers and Optimus Prime was my favorite Transformer because of his famous speeches,” he said.
Halloween is for everyone no matter how old you are. Belknap plans to dress up this year. “I’m sure I’ll dress up this year because I have three children who will most certainly dress up. I often dream of putting together an impressive Doctor Octopus (the Spider-Man villain) costume, one with working tentacles and all,” he said. “The reality, though, is that I will probably dig through our family costume bin last minute to mix-and-match bits of former costumes into something yet unseen in this world, like a gorilla with mad scientist hair and lobster claws.”
Students are planning on dressing up this year for Halloween too. “I plan on dressing up as Bomber from Fortnite, junior Antonio Acevedo. I play Fortnite almost every single day and I think it’s only appropriate to dress up as one of the characters from the game. I also feel like it would be funny because Fortnite is more of a meme now and I think that people will laugh when they see me dressing up as Bomber.”
Trick or treating is a time to hang out with friends and family and acquire as much candy as possible. “Some years I do go trick or treating with my friend in his neighborhood which is a lot of fun because it is an entire neighborhood event with haunted houses and lots of candy and games,” Schuster said.
Halloween is a memorable holiday with all the costumes and candy. Senior Corey Lamb remembers her most memorable part of trick or treating. “The most memorable part of trick or treating for me was when I dressed up as an old lady with a walker and all the people giving out candy loved my costume. I got tons of candy that year and that Halloween is definitely one to remember,” she said.
Halloween is a very fun holiday and it’s a time to be with friends and family. It’s a great time for kids to dress up as anything they want and get to eat as much candy as they want.
