GHS also has a new guidance counselor, Amy Nuzzarello. She has been a guidance counselor for three years now. Before her year at Greendale she worked at Pomona High School and Highlands Ranch High School, both in Colorado. She attended University of Missouri for her undergrad degree in Psychology, and Marquette University for her Masters in School Counseling.

Nuzzarello wanted to become a guidance counselor because of her own counselor in high school “While woking at a summer camp I realized I wanted to help kids the way she helped me. So it just made sense to go into counseling. It ended up being a perfect job for me,” she said.

In her experience, the most challenging aspect of her job was the amount of students in her previous schools. “I wish I had more hours in the day to sit down and talk with all of my students. This is why it is so important for students to come introduce themselves to me,” she said.

Nuzzarello’s favorite change in her transition to Greendale has been the size of the GHS. “I believe more students get the attention they need and the students here are more involved because of the size of the school. The previous school that I worked at had more than 1,600 students and I often felt like they saw themselves as only numbers rather than individuals to the staff. I have loved the transition to the small community at Greendale High School,” she said.

Outside of the district Nuzzarello is a runner in her free time and helps coach the cross country team. “I am hoping that I will be able to run another half marathon this spring! On top of that I love baking, spending time outdoors, and reading in my free time,” she said. “I also attend a trivia night with my friends every week.”
