Round Two of NBA Playoffs Begin
May 25, 2023
The second round of the NBA playoffs concluded, it is a rematch of the infamous bubble matchups between the Boston Celtics against the Miami Heat in the east and the Los Angeles Lakers against the Denver Nuggets in the West.
In the eastern conference there is a star studded matchup between two of the hottest players in the NBA in Jimmy Butler and Jayson Tatum who have each been averaging 30 points per game this playoffs. “I want to see the Heat come out of the east on top just because they beat the Bucks and because Jimmy Butler is a Marquette guy,” Junior Luke Trentadue said.
Now, ESPN has come out with odds and the Cetics have a 97 percent chance to win the eastern conference finals to advance to the finals so the odds are against the Heat but they have been on a tear in the last two series so we will have to wait and see.
In his 20th year Lebron has managed as a 7 seed to beat out the young core of the Memphis Grizzlies and beat the always dangerous Golden State Warriors in the western conference semis. Now he faces the MVP runner up Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets who have lost 3 games in 2 playoffs series so far and have been playing some of the best basketball throughout the league.
But no task has even been too tall for Lebron so we will see what the king can do in this western conference finals. “I want to see Lebron in the finals in year 20 and win his 5th championship so I would like to see the Lakers come out of the west,” sophomore Landon Lopez said.
In the Lakers against Warriors series there were two notable performances in Steph Curry’s triple double in game 4 and Anthony Davis 30 point 23 rebound game in game 1 of the series. In the Knicks vs Heat series Jalen Brunson stayed hot. Even though he just fell short of the eastern conference finals he dropped 41 points in game 6. The Nuggets vs Suns, 2 time MVP winner Nikola Jokic had 3 triple doubles against the Suns along with a 53 point performance in game 4. In game 3 Devin Booker dropped a very efficient 47 point on 80% shooting.
The Celtics vs 76ers series was a competitive series but the Celitcs did come out on top. Jayson Tatum proved why he is one of the best players in the world by dropping 51 points in game 7. James Harden had 45 in game 1 and 42 in game 4 but his efforts were not enough to surpass Jayson Tatum and the Celtics.
“I think Jayson Tatum’s 51 point game just showed all of us how good a basketball player he is and that he has the ability to take over games,” Luke Trentadue said.
