This year the Homecoming Dance on Sept. 16, was a big success with a huge turnout. The Student Council worked hard to plan all the events taking place over the week including Spirit Week, Powderpuff, Pep Rally, and finally the Homecoming Dance.
The dance was originally planned to be hosted on the football field, but due to the weather it was inside. Tickets were sold over the course of five days and cost $25 and included a pink homecoming tshirt.
Student Council member senior Ayanna LaPointe shared the biggest challenges when it came to planning out the week’s events.
“Probably just getting overall excitement raised for the actual dance, not just the week! I would also say that I wuld definitely be the most upset about it being inside. I loved having the dance outside sophomore year so I was really hoping for that. But overall I believe that it was a success,” LaPointe stated.
Senior Caiya Fuentes shared the challenges of preparing for Homecoming during the summer.
“While planning during the summer and first week of school, we did it without having our first “official” student council meeting or elections for positions. So this means it was a little unclear who would do what when it came to planning. I wish we had more time for decorating before the dance,” Fuentes stated.
Freshman Tiffany Galusha shared how her first homecoming experience went this year.
“I went with my friends Sam, Emerson, and my sister, and beforehand for photos we were at my house. Then we went to Milk Can Diner to eat beforehand. At the dance I met up with the rest of my friends Ellie and Dajinay all from work,” freshman Galusha shared.
Senior Erin Graber thought the Dj this year was good and helped make this dance’s music better than the last two Proms.
“The DJ was way better than last year. He actually played music that everyone knew and liked. I hope he comes back for Prom because the DJs at the last two proms and last year’s Homecoming were mediocre at best,” she said.
Junior Eva Marquez thought the dance was better inside than outside.
“I liked that it was inside compared to outside, but it was extremely hot, which is why my friends were not happy about it. For me compared to the football field I’ll take the heat instead of the turf,” she stated. “The turf is for football, not dancing. Not to mention it’s almost always wet. Plus everyone got to wear heels since we were inside.”
Meanwhile Graber suggests that in the future for inside dances, the main gym should host the dance.
“I really wish that the dance was outside because it got really hot in the MPR since everyone was so close together. The fans only helped if you were standing right next to them. It felt so stuffy. If the dance had to be inside again I’d definitely suggest that it would be in the main gym since there’s way more space than the MPR,” Graber stated.
Freshman Angelina Galusha enjoyed the dance but had some criticisms.
“I thought that it felt very crowded and it was kind of weird having a dance where we eat,” Galusha stated. “It was also very hot and I feel like it would be better if it was outside on the football field. I think the DJ played a lot of songs people didn’t know. I wish the music choices could have been better.”
Finally students shared all the fun memories that they got to share with their friends.
“I went in a group including me, Lily Doss, Adela, Daniel Knopkick, Raymond, and Itxel Rocha and I went together. We took pictures in front of village hall,” freshman Tyson McCravens said.
Senior Kate Lindblom was happy to share her final homecoming with her friends.
“I went with my group of friends and we took pictures at my house. My favorite part was being able to make these great memories with my friends,” Lindblom said.
Overall homecoming was a great success amongst the students, and students and staff who all helped set up the dance and make this all possible for all of the students to enjoy.
