With the NFL season now starting it is also the start of another season, the fantasy football season. For those who don’t know what fantasy football is, here is a little run down. Owners draft their team in an order that is predetermined and they can take any player in the NFL.
Once that team is drafted into the lineup, it is set who the owner wants to play that week and who they think will play well and beat the opposing team.
The biggest part of fantasy football is deciding who to draft with the first couple picks. “My first overall draft pick was rookie running back for the Falcons Bijan Robinson,” senior Collin Kramp said.
Now the draft isn’t solely based on one player, but some players surprise owners more than others. “Over achieving for me would be Keenan Allen. He has been playing really well as of late Underachieving would be Geno Smith He’s not playing up to the standard he set last season,” junior Luke Mattes said.
“Calvin Ridley is over achieving for me this year and Deandre Hopkins is underachieving in that offense he is now in,” sophomore Jack Grunske said.
What is the reason that people play fantasy football? “I feel like it is popular because it is a fun thing to do and adds another layer to watching football,” Mattes said.
Fantasy football is not just a quick set your lineups and go, there is a lot of thought, researching and decision making that goes into setting the line up. Looking into matchups, projections, and injury all goes into trying to set the best lineup for the week to help lead you to a win.
Preparation is a huge part of fantasy football. Many players have multiple apps that give them rankings and start/sit suggestions, Tik Tok to some people on there and give good fantasy advice to whoever watches them.
“It gives me something fun to look forward to most nights and gives me something to always talk about with my friends,” Grunske said.
“I think my 14 man league team is great for the amount of players that are in there. I think I got some good players in late rounds that are showing up each week and putting up solid numbers,” Mattes said.
