Giannis Antetoukoumpo and Damian Lillard are being called “The best duo since Hall of Famers Oscar Robertson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.” The Milwaukee Bucks made the bold decision to trade Jrue Holiday and Grayson Allen in a three-way trade to get star player Damian Lillard from the Trail Blazers.
Bucks fans are roaring over the new player, but what does this really mean for the Milwaukee Bucks?
Lillard is a very highly ranked player and many Bucks fans are up on their toes waiting for another Bucks championship win now that they have him. “I think it’s a really beneficial trade, I’ve always been a big fan of Damian Lillard and him coming to Milwaukee has me really hyped,” senior Luke Pritzlaff said.
People can’t wait to see them in the count. Bucks season ticket owner and GHS parent Dan Jeffers said, “I think the two playing together are going to be an absolute powerhouse. The triple threat will be Lillard, Antetotkounmpo, and Middleton because Giannas will drive it down the line and pass to Middleton who will get it to Lillard who will drain it even more consistently than Holiday used to.”
Losing Holiday was a tough loss for many fans because he was a beloved player on the Milwaukee Bucks and made great strides as a point guard. “Jrue Holiday was an amazing player and it sucks that he’s going to play for the Celtics,” Jeffers said. “If you look at it from that perspective we just made one of our most direct competitors a much better team.”
Many people think that the Celtics are a big threat now. “I think it’s a slap in the face to us, Holiday being traded to the Celtics, and it definitely makes them a much bigger threat,” Pritzlaff said.
Bucks fans know Holiday is a good defender and think giving him to the Celtics will make them a much higher threat to the Bucks. Holiday was a two-time all-star, and Bucks fans know he is a powerful defender.
The other player lost was Grayson Allen, a starter for the Bucks as well. He came from Duke University with a bad reputation but made a big impact in Milwaukee. “I think that Holiday and Allen did a lot of community and charity work in Milwaukee and Lillard won’t make that big of an impact on Milwaukee, but he’s a really good player,” senior Lillian Uhlenhake said.
The Milwaukee Bucks are taking big strides this year after trading our starters creating a totally different team this year. The new double threat should be fun to watch and hopefully take it far this season. Losing Holiday and Allen is a hard loss for many fans, but almost everyone can agree that we have a good shot at winning big this year with our new team.
