Boys Greendale Volleyball season has almost ended with an improvement by the team as they look for a few wins as the season wound down. The 12 players continued to improve their volleyball skills because of the coach.
“It takes skill and also a good mindset and motivation for your team,” captain junior Rudra Sharma said. “I will miss the fun practices and just overall the bond with the team, but we will be back next year.”
The team did not have any wins in the regular season, but every game was competitive, and in every game they won a set. The team had tough matchups, like Pewaukee, West Allis, and Pius but they showed improvement every game and the coaches agree with the point that they have improved, especially in their game against New Berlin.
“We had some of the best serving I have ever seen, the best passing and great team play,” coach Steve Biskupski said.
Biskupski explains what players need to do during the off-season.
“Players should play club or at least work harder in the off-season to get better. Come to the open gyms. Ask questions on what they can do to get better,” he said.
Players have ideas about the strengths and weaknesses of the team.
“The strength of our team is knowing what we are capable of and staying humble. We need to work on staying focused during our games and not letting a mistake or two drag us down,” libero junior Carter Verhein said.
In one of their last matches against Racine Park they took it to five sets, but lost. The boys had a game against Shorewood which was senior night, but they lost in five sets. The boys played with their heart as every set was close.
“The game against Shorewood was a very good and intense game. The first two games we were making many mistakes, but the third and fourth game we cleaned it up. Yet the last game to finish the match is what I regret,” senior Hangjay Liu said.
The boys had a conference tournament last Saturday, but that was canceled due to the power being out. In their regionals; they’ll be playing against South Milwaukee today, which could end their season.
