The Brewers season ended in the first round of the playoffs when they got swept by the Diamondbacks two games to none.
In the first game they lost 6-3. It started out well in the first inning when Christian Yelich walked to first base and then William Contreras singled to the right and Yelich went to third. On the next play, Carlos Santana singled to first base and Yelich scored. They scored two more in the second to go up 3-0. However in the top of the third, the Diamondbacks scored 3 runs and went on to win 6-3.
Then they lost the second game 5-2. Once again they started well in the bottom of the first inning when Yelich walked to first base. Then Santana singled. After that Mark Canha got a single and Yelich went to third, and Santana went to second. On the next play, Sal Frelick hit a sacrifice fly to right and Yelich scored. And right before the inning ended Adames singled to center with Santana scoring, and Canha going to third. The score was 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning. But once again the Diamondbacks came back, winning 5-2.
“I think the Brewers losing in the playoffs was very bad because we were so good in the regular season, but I feel like it was kind of expected for us to lose because we always lose in the playoffs,” sophomore Thomas Hanlon said.
Fans were not happy with the Brewers losing in the wild card round because of the position they were in atop in the NL Central.
“They should’ve Pulled Burns and Peratla earlier. When Peratla starts to walk people he’s done,” junior Gabe Knopick said.
Now it’s time to think about next year. The team will have 12 players that will be free agents including Canha, Santana, Jesse Winker, and Andrew Chafin. They will need to put in a lot of work in this offseason to make it farther in the playoffs for the 2024 season. Fans are hopeful they can improve.
“Yelich needs to keep building on this season and they should trade Corbin Burnes because he’ll be too expensive for them next season,” junior Tyler Brooks said.
