Student Council has been very busy this year planning Homecoming, Blood Drives, and spirit weeks. Last month they had their yearly election.
The board members are President senior Caiya Fuentes, Vice President senior Kate Lindbloom, Treasurer junior Nick Galusha, Secretaries senior Ayanna LaPointe, and junior Tess Zaja. Now that these positions have been filled, the Student Council will prepare and plan a 2023 Winter Formal.
This year, the Student Council has introduced monthly spirit weeks. The first spirit week was a “fall spirit week” which included many different fall-themed days, like Monday being sweater day, Tuesday as pajama day, Wednesday as class colors day and Thursday was pink for breast cancer awareness day, and Friday students were told to dress up by the career they want to pursue when they are older.
“I love being secretary with Ayanna, we work so well together and are very similar and different in many positive ways. I love the idea of monthly spirit weeks, and participation is optional which is nice for everyone,” Zaja said.
These spirit weeks are a way to bring the student body together in a fun way collectively. “We planned this spirit week when we were still without any official positions, so I think it went well enough for still not being entirely organized,” Fuentes said.
Many students seemed to enjoy this first spirit week and believed that it uplifted their week and school spirit. “The first fall spirit week could have been a better turnout but was fun to participate in because it brings more school spirit into our environment,” Lindblom said.
Galusha agrees. “I enjoy the spirit weeks quite a bit. I think they bring a great atmosphere into the high school, and some spirit days have a lot of involvement, which is always a fun time.”
Student Council is stepping up its game this year, with many activities and fun events for this school year, as well as bringing the student body together as a whole collectively.
