About a month ago, a conflict between Israel and Palestine finally broke out as Israel declared war on Palestine for launching an attack and bombing in Israel.
The war broke out when Palestine launched an attack on Southern Israel, killing over 1,000 people. Buildings have been destroyed on both sides as Israel has been launching attacks and missiles on Gaza and Jerusalem, killing over 10,000 people and about half of those deaths are children. More than 4,000 children have been killed so far.
On Oct 18, President Joe Biden declared the US will provide $100 million in humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people in Gaza and West Bank.
“Israel and Palestinians equally deserve to live in safety, dignity, and peace. You know, and here at home, we have to be honest with ourselves. In recent years, too much hate has been given too much oxygen, fueling racism, a rise in antisemitism and Islamophobia right here in America,” Biden said in an article on usaid.gov.
Civilians are not to blame and should not suffer, so Biden has helped the Palestinian people by giving them water, food, hygiene support, medical care, and other special needs. “We will continue to have Israel’s back,” Biden said.
Biden wants this war to end so he’s figuring out a plan with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel to stop this war so it doesn’t impact the future of the world, but so far the war is still going and could get worse in the future.
Global Studies classes discuss relations between Palestine and Israel during the second semester to have students learn about the context of World War and the Cold War that influenced the conflict between Israel and Palestine. “We teach about it because it is an essential topic for students to know about to understand the world today,” Global Studies teacher Megan Faherty said.
Teachers also teach this war to show how different Israel and Palestine can be in land, history, nationality, and religion. Overall this could be chaos and get more dangerous because it could lead to wars worldwide.
