For many viewers, ‘Young Sheldon’ marked the beginning of a Big Bang Theory backstory for Sheldon, one of the most popular characters on the show. Now after seven years of production, the creators of Young Sheldon have announced that the seventh season will be the official end to the show.
The show has increased in popularity after its first release in 2017, telling the story of a Texan family in the late 1980’s facing the challenges of life, especially when their son and brother is a genius. Many fans have mixed feelings about the TV show being officially over in a few months. Is it too early to pull the plug on the show?
Many fans remember being interested in the show even before the release date because they had watched The Big Bang Theory. “I was late to the game watching Big Bang, but definitely watched the last few seasons,” ASL teacher Jennifer McCauley said. “I love making connections between the two shows. Some things make more sense with the Big Bang knowing things from Young Sheldon. I love the adult Sheldon voice-overs…It adds so much if you watched both shows. The casting is spot on.”
The beginning of the show starts off with the main character Sheldon, starting high school at age 9, the same time as his 14 year old brother. Sheldon is known for his tendency to correct teachers on a daily basis because he isn’t being challenged academically in his high school. Outside of the classroom though, it’s hard to navigate around highschool and even try to make friends when you’re 4 ‘5. This leads to all types of troubles and mischief Sheldon unexpectedly gets himself into.
Another fan shared their opinions on how they feel about the show’s reputation and why they’re going to miss the show after this last season. “In the last season, I hope that Georgie and Mandy will end up finally getting together, but I predict that they might also get divorced in the next season,” senior Lilly Pogorzelski said, “I started watching this show on insta reels and tiktok, and I thought it was so funny, so I am gonna miss the show and Sheldon’s funny jokes.”
Looking back on the show, fans will remember how much they loved and discovered the show the most. “I think this final season is going to be one of the best. It’s going to exceed my expectations,” senior Bryn Richards said. “I watch this show because of Tik Tok. I also started watching because of Big Band Theory. I loved Sheldon in that and so I was excited to see him as a kid.”
Even though fans are sad to see the final season beginning soon, they also look back and have appreciation for the production and release of this show, remembering this TV series forever.
