Over the past three weeks, the NFL playoffs brought a lot of thrills and surprises, all leading up to the superbowl on February 10 between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
In the AFC championship game, Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs once again advanced to the Super Bowl by beating the Ravens 17-10. The soon to be MVP Lamar Jackson and the Ravens did not play well in their matchup with the Chiefs, as they could only find the end zone in the first drive.
“I think this playoff run by the Chiefs proves how good Patrick Mahomes is. Earlier in the regular season everybody counted the Chiefs out, and Mahomes still made it to the Super bowl ” sophomore Thomas Hanlon said.
The other matchup in the NFC championship was the Lions vs the 49ers. The Lions were dominating the whole first half, then choked the lead in the second have leading to the 49ers win. Some people think the Lions lose because of head coach Dan Campbell’s decision making.
“I think one of the big reasons that the Lions lost was the decision making by their head coach Dan Campbell. The Lions had two chances to kick a field goal on fourth down, but they chose to go for it both times and didn’t get either. This led to lost points and the 49ers scoring,” senior Jonah Plitt said
One of the surprises in the playoffs was Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers who beat the 2nd seed Dallas Cowboys and were in a close game against the 1st seed San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round. They came up short, but they exceeded expectations and were the youngest team in the league
“Even though we lost, we were just a young 7th seed with a first year quarterback. This playoffs really showed that the Packers could play, and Jordan Love could play well. I think that we can reflect on this year and playoffs to get better for next year, and get farther in the playoffs,” sophomore Jack Grunske said
People are pretty split on who they think will win the Super bowl. “I think the 49ers are going to win because they have a better offense. Christian McCaffrey is going to cook the chief’s defense” sophomore Muhammid Ali said.
“The Chiefs are going to win because of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. You can never bet against those two,” freshman Brady Lindholm said.
