Last month, the Chiefs faced the 49ers in a thriller of a SuperBowl, with the Chiefs winning 25-22 for their second straight championship, and third in five years.
The first quarter was scoreless and in the second half kicker Jake Moody hit a 55 yard field goal, giving the 49ers a 3-0 lead. After that, the Chiefs got the ball and drove down the field, but then running back Isiah Pacheco fumbled, and the 49ers recovered.
The 49ers proceeded to drive down the field, and then pulled off a trick play; A touchdown pass by wide receiver Juan Jennings to Christian Mccaffrey gave the 49ers a 10-0 lead.
Then in the 3rd quarter, constant mistakes by the 49ers gave the Chiefs the lead, 13-10. After that, Juan Jennings caught a touchdown for the Niners and both teams kept trading field goals, and as the fourth quarter ended the score was tied 19-19.
The 49ers got the ball first in overtime, and could only kick a field goal. That then gave Mahomes and the Chiefs a chance to go down the field and win the game, and that is what they did. Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman caught the 3 yard game winning touchdown.
“With Mahomes winning his second superbowl in a row, I think he should be in the goat convo. He already has 3 super bowls at the age of 28, and he has plenty of time to keep getting more,” senior Collin Kramp said
One of the reasons the Chiefs won is the decision making by the 49ers to receive the ball first during the coin toss in overtime. Many people were saying that they made the wrong choice.
“I think the 49ers should’ve differed the ball. They would’ve had a last chance to score and you can’t give Mahomes the ball with a chance to win the game,” sophomore Zavier Castillo said.
Another reason the Chiefs won is that their defense stopped Christian McCaffrey and the 49ers offense and the 49ers star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was held to only 3 catches for 49 yards.
