The Greendale Boys Swim season came to an end on Feb. 17 at the WIAA swimming state meet at Waukesha South High School.
The boys, known as Pg2 Co-Op with Greenfield and Pius, had a very successful end of the season with a 5th place finish at Sectionals with three individual first place finishes by sophomore Sean Libal in the 50 free, junior Noah Stanford in 100 free, and Greenfield senior Dominic Garcia in the 100 fly.
They also had two relay wins in the 4×50 freestyle relay and 4×100 freestyle relay all so they moved on to compete at the D1 State meet the week after.
Eight members of Pg2 then competed at D1 State, four being from Greendale. While they didn’t score any points at state, Pg2 had a very successful and fun season. Coach Mark Schrank highlights his favorite part of the season.
“I would say it was at conference relays. We went in with a couple of sick people and with a team of seven. That’s a huge deal. But we ended up winning four different relays with such a small team. We were small but mighty,” he said.
Libal describes his individual performance at state and his accomplishments. “My individual performance at state wasn’t fantastic, however, I was more happy with the accomplishment of making it to state in an individual event,” he said.
Stanford had a similar state performance. “My performance at state was hindered because I was sick and unable to go to practice or swim my fastest at state. But I’m still thankful that I was able to go and swim,” he said.
The small but mighty Pg2 team ended the season with a strong conference record. Libal is happy with how the season ended.
With the season ending it’s hard to think about the seniors leaving us, but it’s also fun to look back on the team memories,” he said.
