Greendale Girls basketball finished their 2023 season on Friday, February 23rd. In the Regional Finals against Whitnall and lost 59-64.
Many of the girls are very accomplished and sad that their season is over. The Greendale Girls Basketball team won their Regional Quarter Final on Tuesday night against South Milwaukee with a final score of 59-43. Sophomore Tatiyana Edwards and Macey St. Lawrence both scored 14 points and had 8 rebounds in the match up. Sophomore Giselle Paszkiewicz added 11 points, 6 assists, and 6 steals. Great team effort ladies, but they are happy that they won in the regional quarterfinals against South Milwaukee, 59-43. Parents and students were very proud of the athletes as they kept their heads up after their last game.
Although there were no seniors on the team, this year everyone worked very hard and had strong dedication, especially the underclassmen. There were many memories throughout the season that all of these girls made that they will always remember. “The West Allis Central home game was special to me. I feel like that was one of the first times we were all able to click and we all had a lot of fun that night, nobody wanted to come off the floor,” sophomore Peyton Yoder said.
Junior Dragana Mijatovic has a different moment that is her favorite. “The most memorable moment for me and my team was the joy and energy everyone had for each other when we scored and even when we had our setbacks,” she said.
With all of the fun times they had, also came different challenges and struggles they had to overcome. “The biggest challenge the team faced throughout the season was adversity, a lot of it, whether it was from the refs, the players, or the crowd. We overcame it by supporting each other throughout it and continuing to play the game regardless,” Mijatovic said.
Girls basketball may have lost regional finals but they still had some great wins throughout the year. “Some of the biggest wins for the team were watching everyone individually grow throughout the season and seeing how they applied it on the court because so many of these girls are very young,” Mijatovic said. “It’s a lot of pressure to be put under, as we walked in not knowing we were only going to have a varsity team, but no one gave up and we found our way around it. We’re all extremely proud of our freshmen.”
