After a long offseason of training and hard work the baseball boys are ready for this season. With a rough start of 0-4, they have rebounded to win four straight and players are not worried about their season, saying it’s an easy fix and things are going to turn around.
“We have struggled a little bit with hitting but it can be an easy fix to have a great season. I need to be a leader and be vocal and help our team be the best we can be to help people get better,” junior Luke Mattes said.
“We were off to a rough start but we can only go up from here so hopefully we finish strong and can make a push in the playoffs and just stay positive through the losses and make sure everyone is still level-headed and not dwelling on the rough times we are having,” senior Jack Bauer said.
Returning varsity players are looking for ways to improve from last year and learn from their mistakes, saying this year it’s going to be different. They are not going to worry about their individual stats but play as a team.
“We learned that we all have to play as a team and care about winning not just stats. It is different this year because a lot of pitchers we face got way better,” senior pitcher Alin Ademi said.
But the season is far from over and there is still much time to turn things around. Players not giving up and still trying to win conference and state awards is very important to them. In the last four games they have beaten Marquette 10-0, Franklin 8-7, Cudahy 9-1 and Pius 6-4.
Some of the top performers on the mound have been Ademi and junior Ben Hites who have picked up wins in their last 2 starts. At the plate Mattes and junior Dylan Campeau have been swinging it well as of late, collecting multiple hits in games against Marquette and Franklin.
“Individual goal is to earn 1st team all-conference and our team goal is to win conference, have 20+ wins and make it back to state,” Campbeau said.
“I’m really pushing and really think that we can have a 20 win season and make a deep playoff run if we just win the games we are supposed to win,” junior Caden Meyer said.
After a rough start the Panthers have figured out what they needed to change to have a successful season and to start winning games. “We all were sick of losing so we had to switch our mentality and start only caring about the win and not the individual stats. Our pitchers started playing really well and everyone is way more consistent at bat,” Bauer said.
