The girl’s varsity softball season has begun and they have a current record of 6-12. So far they have beat Cudahy 17-0, Pewaukee 3-0, Tosa East 10-1, Sheboygan North 13-1, New Berlin Eisenhower 4-0, and Brown Deer 20-0. Sophomore Giselle Paskiewicz leads the team in batting average, hits, and RBIs.
The girls think the team is doing pretty well so far, specifically because they started off with a rocky start, but now their team chemistry is getting stronger and they feel like they are starting to gel more as a team.
The team is young with only three juniors and seniors and nine sophomores and freshmen. “I like that the team is so young because we all get to grow up on the team together and get to know each other super well,” said sophomore Ella Padron. “Our best game so far I think was against Sheboygan North because we had really good defense and we all hit really well and took a 13-1 win.”
Even though they have had some ups and downs they still are having a great season. “I think the team being so young is fun and I like being with my friends. I like that a lot of the girls on our team are mostly sophomores because I get to grow with my grade and play with my friends,” sophomore Clea Walters said.
The biggest win came against New Berlin Eisenhower with the Struck-Out Cancer Game. They had lost to Ike earlier in the season so it was nice to win the second time they played them.
“It felt good to beat Ike because we needed it. We’re finally trusting each other and having more fun,” junior Noeli Schutten said.
The goal for the remainder of the season is to finish strong and use team chemistry to win against those tougher teams. Even though the majority of the team is young the girls are stepping up and taking care of business. “Something that our team is strong with is good communication and trust in each other,” Walters said.
