After a long spring, the track season has come to an end. It was a hard-fought season, with only one runner qualifying for state. The track team got bumped up to one of the hardest sectionals in Wisconsin, making it very tough to qualify for state.
The qualifying runner was freshman Devon Williams who ran the 200 meter with a time of 22.55. He was the only freshman to run at state for the 200 meter. State took place at La Crosse, May 31- to June 1. In state, he ended in 20th place out of 25 people with a time of 22.93.
“It’s cool to be the only freshman to make it to state in the 200. My hard work in the offseason has paid off. Running Milwaukee Speed got me faster and ready,” Willams said. “To be prepared, I have been practicing my block starts off the curve because it is really one of the most important parts of the race.”
One runner who had a great season is sophomore Addison Patnaude. During the season, she broke the school record in the 800 and she is looking to getting better in the offseason.
“I think I can improve over the offseason and keep my 800 record time. I am also looking forward to getting better by running every day to train my body for the next track season,” she said.
Prior to State were Regionals and Sectionals. There were several PR’s or season best performances as both the Boys and Girls finished 2nd in the team divisions at Regionals. Some of the runners and field events that got first include senior Mallory Fritz in the discus, junior Nolan Wozniak in the 1600 & 3200, Patneaude in the 800, sophomore Sebastian Langenfeld in the 800, and Williams in the 200.
The second placers in regionals include senior Ethan Lee in triple jump, junior Maggie Rice in the 1600, senior Jonah Plitt in the 300 Hurdles, as well as the boys and girls 800 Relays, and the boys and girls 1600 Relays.
“I think I ended my track career on a good note. I ran great at Regionals, but I fell short at Sectionals. The track was overall a success for me because it gave me something to do, and got me in shape for football season. It was fun to go to different meets with my teammates. The track is something that I am going to miss,” Plitt said.
