Greendale High School held their first school dance of the 24-25 school year for Homecoming, and it was a hit. The attendance was through the roof this year with 605 students dancing the night away.
The freshman thought it was a blast. “My favorite part of the dance was the music. It was definitely my taste and was super hype,” freshman James Marshall said.
Some freshmen had other thoughts. “I think the dance was decorated well, but it was too hot and they should have done something with the air conditioning,” freshman Layla Danbeck said.
Students thought the vibe and energy really stood out, especially compared to previous years. The disco theme decorations were also a huge hit to all students and faculty. “They really added to the disco 70’s theme, and I think the decorations made a big difference,” junior Lily Frick-Machut said.
Others thought the complete opposite. “I think the decorations were corny and kept getting caught in my hair when I’d walk past. I think they should have done a little better with placing the decorations where they won’t be a bother,” junior Thomas Hanlon said.
The Homecoming dance had a huge turn out and lots of students enjoyed SanteFest the DJ, along with the photobooth set up. And the moment everyone was waiting for approached around the end of the dance, the announcement of King and Queen. This year’s King and Queen were Maggie Rice and Ilijia Pupovac.
Greendale’s last Homecoming that occurred outside was In 2021, and many seniors loved it,, “It was so much better outside, it was less crowded and so much less hot,” senior Kennedy Durocher said. “But the turf was gross and you can’t wear heels on it which was annoying.”
This year’s Homecoming couldn’t have occurred without the Students Council. They began planning this event in August with students and teachers coming in on their free time during summer vacation, and spending hours after school setting everything up.
“I think the dance went really well. The whole Student Council put in a lot of effort and we had a huge turnout from multiple grades. I’m really proud with how everything turned out,” junior Student Council member Zayd Cartagena said.
