The 2024 Boys Soccer season has had some ups and downs and the players are looking to improve their record. The Panthers have been struggling to get conference success, and they are currently 2-3 in conference.
The players know that there are things they can work on which will help them be successful.
“I think that we are all improving even though it might not feel like it and once we find our confidence as a team we will be good,” senior captain Ilija Pupovac said.
Over the past month, the soccer team has been playing the best teams in the state. Some of these opponents included New Berlin Eisenhower where they tied 0-0, Oak Creek, and Union Grove, the defending state champions.
The Panthers have had disappointing results against these teams, however on Oct 3, the Panthers tied the New Berlin Eisenhower Lions, their only non win in conference. “This was a very important game and gave us momentum,” Mermal said.
As they approach a challenging game against Brookfield East, the 11th best team in the nation, senior captain Giancarlo Lechuga prepares.
“As a team we have to be more focused in warm-ups because we practice how we play,” Lechuga says. “Brook East is going to be a hard game but it’s going to be good competition before playoffs.”
The season has been tough, but new additions to the team enjoy it. Freshman Henry Mermal is excited to play against tough opponents and be a part of the team.
“It is a special opportunity and I want to help this team win more,” Mermal said.
Although facing challenging opponents, the Panthers have seen great success in some games, such as Pewaukee and WAC. These games were a high point in the season with Ilijia scoring two goals, and senior Seif Samir scoring a goal in these two games.
“The best win was probably Pewaukee because it was a big conference win and our hard work paid off,” Pupovac said.
The Panthers will have to work harder to improve their record, and they are ready for it.
