As the cross country season starts winding down, the cross country runners express how they developed a great friendship with all the players on the team. This year has shown how many players connect very well as a team with each other, creating a bond they never would have had before, and encouraging others to join.
“I think others should join cross country because it’s a great conditioning sport to help you become more active, despite seeming difficult or not fun,” senior Carly Antczak said. “It will get easier with time and helps to take your mind off of whatever stresses you may feel during the day.”
The runners on the team have shown a lot of sportsmanship this year.
“I feel like the team connects like one big family,” freshman Bella Sincere said.
Not only is it all for the sportsmanship, but for the players to realize their running potential, and to set goals for themselves in their future distances.
“My goal for this year is to beat my personal record,” senior Mason Bentley said. “My past few runs I feel like I did well, but I know my potential can be better for my last year in high school cross country.”
Coach Brandon Pettis, has seen how his runners have been developing novels this season. “I feel like the season has been going decent so far,” Pettis said. “Almost our entire team has run course bests (fastest 5k time on a specific course) or set personal records and run their fastest 5k ever. They’ve managed those feats in pretty warm conditions which means the best is yet to come.”
Antzak hopes her senior year ends well. “My goal for the season is to get my all time personal best in the 20 minute range and to help my team place for the state competition,” Antczak said.
