It’s November and that means the freshman class of 2028 has fully transitioned to high school. While most GHS students attended Greendale Middle School, a good number did not.
“I was a little nervous coming to Greendale because it’s a new school, but I did already know a lot of people at GHS,” freshman Nora Griffin said.
While having to get up earlier, freshmen had to get used to many other changes. For example, freshmen can choose from many different classes for their electives.
“I am really happy with the electives I took,” freshman Claire Endter said. “I am taking PBS and Into to Foods this semester, and the teachers and people make it super fun.”
Many students have been looking forward to high school for a long time. Homecoming and school sports are often what kids like the most.
“My best memory of the school year so far is HOCO spirit week,” freshman Kaylee Kalmerton said.
“The football games are my favorite memories so far,” freshman Olivia Goetzke said. “I would always see the student section in middle school, and it looked so fun.”
Freshmen have also had to get used to homework, while also taking harder classes and being involved in after-school activities. Because of this, they have had to learn time management.
“I was a little bit scared of high school, knowing that grades matter quite a lot more now. I always tell myself that any assignment, any test I take, colleges could look at,” freshman Clara Svoboda said.
The first year of high school often sets kids up for a good high school experience. Kids need to focus on school while maintaining a balance between academics and social life.
“High school is a mix of both adjusting to the new environment and making new memories along the way,” freshman Julia Block said.
