The girl’s volleyball season came to an end with a loss to Waukesha North High School.
Although they ended with a loss the season was pretty successful overall as they had a record of 15-21.
“Overall I would say I was pleased with the season. We were able to stay competitive with every team in the woodland west and performed fairly well at our weekend tournaments.” Coach Kelly Schmidt said.“Considering I had 10 returners from the previous season I would say we definitely had individual and team growth from the last season which is always great to see and experience.”
To prepare for a better season next year, during the off-season players will practice and improve their stamina and overall just work on themselves so that they can all individually improve so that they can be a better team for the next season. Going into the following season there will be a lot fewer players.
“Having 9 players leave and only 5 remaining does pose a little bit of a challenge as many of those starting positions were seniors, so we will have some spots to fill next year. We will be relying upon those 5 remaining players to step up and be leaders for the new team members joining the team,” Schmidt said.“We will definitely need to work on our team culture and create a welcoming environment to those who are selected to join us. I definitely think the remaining girls are ready for their responsibilities and want to have just as much success if not more next season.”
The team faced some challenges but always found a way to pull it together and perform as well as possible during each game. The game that was most memorable during the season was their game against Pius, which they won in straight sets.
“The best match of the year was probably when we beat Pius. It was an extremely good feeling and brought the team together so much more,” senior Ava Schroeder said.
Coach Schmidt agrees, “The best match of the season would be our sweep against Pius at Pius. We played with composure, grit, and hustle, she said “Lots of our players had some of their best matches and there were numerous memorable plays. Even when the score would be tight, we never showed we were nervous or in a panic. We knew we would get the next point and push forward when needed.”
A returner from this year will have to step up to lead the team next year to help meet their goals.
“Although it was tough saying goodbye to my favorite seniors, I am excited to fill the shoes of the seniors, and to be one of the people to now lead the court next year,” juinor Kayleigh Kowalke said.
