The stakes are higher, and the pressure is immense: The CFP is here, pitting the Nation’s top 12 teams against each other in a high-stakes battle for the ultimate prize, the National Championship.
The CFP started by announcing the four teams that had a bye week: Oregon, Boise State, Georgia, and Arizona State. Because these teams won their conference championships, they got the bye. The first-round games this weekend include Tennessee vs. Ohio State, Clemson vs. Texas, Indiana vs. Notre Dame, and SMU vs. Penn State.
“I believe OSU vs Tennessee will be the best game in the first round due to them both having amazing defense, but I think Tennessee will win because they have a better offense,” sophomore Jack Hajewski said.
Many teams are favorites to win the championship such as Oregon, Texas, Georgia, and more. Although these teams are very well-known to fans, unexpected teams such as Indiana, Boise State, SMU, and Arizona State have made the CFP.
“Boise State could have a chance to win the playoffs because they have Heisman candidate, Ashton Jeanty who is leading in both rushing yards and rushing touchdowns,” sophomore Korben Pfeifer said. “ I also think Indiana could go on the run due to their insane defense and coach, Curt Cignetti.”
Although the playoffs are exciting, many fans are graced with seeing the first 12-team playoffs going into action. The CFP has been running with four playoff teams, but the NCAA decided to create the first 12-team playoffs in College Football history.
“I believe the 12-team playoff idea was brilliant because it’s more entertaining to watch the best 12 teams go head-to-head,” sophomore Grady Smith said. “I also believe that the NCAA did this, so fans don’t complain about how teams were snubbed out of the playoffs.”
With the final rankings released, the College Football Playoff bracket is officially set, promising thrilling matchups and high stakes, The 12 contending teams, each with impressive seasons behind them, will battle for the National Championship title.
