Winter Break is coming up and lots of people plan to go on vacation somewhere warm for the week, while others plan to visit family and friends in the area.
English teacher Kate Wagner is taking advantage of the long break and traveling all the way to New Zealand.
“We will be in New Zealand from Dec. 20 – Jan. 5. We will be doing a boat cruise of Milford Sound, seeing the Hobbiton movie studio set, and Rotorua geysers, and swimming in hot springs throughout the country,” she said.
Many people use the week of winter break to get away from the cold weather, traveling to places like Florida, California, or Mexico.
“I’m going to be at Disney World in Orlando from the 25 to the 30 and this is my first time,” junior Marquis Norris said. “I’m going with my family because we all wanted a family vacation together for a really long time. I am most looking forward to going to Hollywood Studio Park because it has many of the movies that I grew up watching.”
Winter vacation is going to allow families to step away from daily routines and distractions.
“Every winter break my dad and sister go on vacation together. This year we’re going to Riviera Maya, Mexico for the second time,” junior Eva Sula said. “We leave on Dec. 20 and come back on the 30. I am most excited to go scuba diving and try different restaurants.”
Lots of people are going to warm places for winter break but other families like the cold and makes it feel more like the holiday season and loves to do winter activities.
Junior Lydia Anderson is visiting Utah from Dec. 27 – Jan 2. “I am going to Park City, Utah and I am so excited because I have never been there before and I am looking forward to skiing with my sister. One thing I want to do is go tubing and snowboarding,” she said.
Vacation is a perfect opportunity for people to step out of their comfort zone and try things that they have never done before, taking new risks and living life to the fullest.
Senior Giancarlo Lechuga got the chance to leave school and start his break early.
“I am going to Mexico with my girlfriend and my family. I have been to Mexico many times and I enjoy going every time. One of my favorite things to do is go to concerts and go to the beach,” he said.
Going on vacation during this time of the year can be exciting because you get to explore new places, experience different cultures, and create great memories with people you care for.
