Students and Staff had their well deserved winter break, from Dec 20 – Jan 1. It was a time where students and teachers got to relax after a long and hard semester.
Winter break is a way for you to create new memories with the people you’re closest to in life, and try new things and create a new you before the year ends. Some people stayed warm for the holidays and enjoyed being inside with their family and friends. Other people loved getting out and enjoying the cold.
“This winter break I stayed home with my family for the holidays and watched Christmas movies, baked cookies with my mom and went shopping for presents,” senior Makayla Southern said. “I hung out with my friends almost every night and we went ice skating, sledding and snowboarding. We met a lot of new people and got out a lot this break. I love it when this time of the year comes around because I really enjoy all of the winter activities.”
Lots of people don’t like the cold so they like to leave the state.
“During winter break I went to Wylie, Texas with my mom, brother and his girlfriend. We went to see a movie and went to an arcade. I spent quality time with my mom this break and we like to stay in and watch Christmas movies and bake dessert,” said sophomore Cara Cornell. “I didn’t really do that much winter activities but I did ride my bike a little bit. Coming back to school was hard because I was really tired and I wasn’t used to getting up that early anymore.”
Many people leave the town to be in the cold and the snow.
Freshman Claire Hegedus went up north and enjoyed the cold.
“The winter break was better than the middle school winter break because it was more eventful. My favorite thing over winter break was hanging out with friends and family. I also celebrated the holidays by going to family and friend parties,” she said.
Junior Sebastian Langenfeld went to Wausau to ski with his family.
“I stayed local during this break but I went to Wausau, WI to go ski with my family. I had a great time and winter activities are always fun. I also went sledding with my younger cousins a couple times. I feel like winter break was too short. I didn’t really try anything new this break but my favorite thing I did was go on vacation and get to see all of my family and friends,” he said.
Students were not the only people who got to relax and enjoy a good time off, teachers also got to get a well deserved break.
“I went out to dinner with friends and hosted Christmas for my family,” Social Studies teacher Nicole Mobley said. “I did not do any work over the break, as I made sure my prep work was ready for when I returned. I did not go anywhere specific this break, I just hung out at home and finished some projects around the house.”
Winter break is most people’s favorite time of the year because of the holidays and all of the traditions. Now that it is over, students and staff are finishing up the semester and patiently waiting for spring break.
