As the first semester comes to an end, seniors who will be graduating early are getting ready to end their high school career. Graduating early is a very big deal for seniors. It is a way of showing all the hard work, dedication, and time they have devoted and put into school.
The main purpose of graduating early is early admission into college, starting a job early, or taking time to prepare before the next stage of their lives.
“Our main concern is what that student will be doing in place of finishing their education here,” said counselor Christopher Muench.
“I graduated early and will be attending University of Miami to join the school’s volleyball team and start to practice with them and be in spring season matches. Also this will help me get acclimated to college before the fall semester when we travel every week for volleyball,” senior Billie Reiter said.
Graduating early and beginning college a semester ahead of time is effective for many reasons. As Reiter stated, it allows students to get a head start on only our education and learn more valuable skills on how to manage your time in college.
“I am graduating early because it provides opportunities to work and get experience before the next phases of my life,” senior Kelvin Roberts said.
Some students might not want to graduate early because they want to experience the rest of their years before they graduate and begin the next chapter of their life. By graduating early you miss out on events such as prom, graduation, and spending time with their friends. Also, graduating early may feel rushed for some students and the majority of individuals would prefer taking their time and growing at their own pace.
“I wouldn’t want to graduate early because I want to still experience the school festivities and be with my friends before we graduate together then go our separate ways,” senior Kendall Coggins said.
Even if some students would not personally graduate early though they still are able to recognize the benefits that come from graduating early.
“I personally wouldn’t graduate early but a plus that comes from it is it allows you to start your life earlier. Even if you don’t want to start college right after you graduate early it gives you the opportunity to start working full time and get experience,” senior Josiah Ornelas said.
