It is a little bit over half way through the NBA season, and many teams are on the rise. There are many good teams, but Bucks fans are still hoping to get another championship. There have also been a couple of big trades.
The biggest and most surprising trade was Luka Doncic to the Lakers, and Anthony Davis to the Mavericks. This shocked the NBA, as it is 2 superstars getting traded to different teams.
“I was very surprised when I saw the trade but I think it will end up working out for both teams,” junior Tyler Roche said. “I think Luka is a superstar player but has trouble staying in shape so the Mavs were getting worried. Even though Anthony Davis is getting older he still is very good and will help them win right now.”
Sitting first in the Eastern Conference is the Cleveland Cavaliers, with a record of 40-10. On the other side, the Western Conference, sitting first is the Oklahoma City Thunder, with a record of 39-9. Both of them are the favorites to make it to the finals.
“Right now it is looking like the Celtics and Thunder because they are both very balanced teams with great defense. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bucks or Cavs made it either, because the Cavs are great offensively, and the Bucks are starting to figure things out.” junior Jack Grunske said.
RIght now the top players in the NBA are Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Giannis is currently averaging 31.8 points per game, 12.2 rebounds, and 5.9 assists while shooting at a proficient 60.8%. “My current MVP is Giannis because no one is doing what he does on both offense and defense. Jokic is a really good offensive player but doesn’t bring much defense to the table,“ Grunske said.
Jokic is averaging 29.5 points per game, 12.9 rebounds, and 10.3 assists.
Sitting at the 4th seed in the east is the Milwaukee Bucks. They have a record of 26-19, after having a really rough start to the year.
“The Bucks have been playing very well lately and we’re finally seeing Dame and Giannis playing at a high level together. After a rough start, the Bucks really seem to be figuring it out and hopefully continue to move up in the Eastern Conference Standings,” junior Thomas Hanlon said.
Many Bucks fans really want to see the Bucks back in the finals. To do that, they need to improve on some things.
“To win a championship, Giannis, Dame, and everybody else all need to step up and play their role correctly throughout the playoffs. We also need to not get any injuries during the playoffs because that has been ruining us the past couple of years,” Hanlon said.
