As the girls soccer season approaches in the spring, the past varsity girls organized a futsal team. The futsal league helps them stay in shape and allows them to get touches on the ball before the tryouts and season begin.
Futsal compared to regular soccer is played on a much smaller field indoors, and the majority of the time they are on a hard surface. However regular soccer, it is outdoor and played on a larger grass or turf field, and the soccer ball is lighter compared to a futsal ball. These small differences make futsal much more fast-paced because the soccer ball moves faster and it focuses more on ball control skills.
“Futsal helps me prepare for the upcoming season by allowing me to learn the team’s chemistry and how each person plays,” freshman Giselle Munoz said.
This futsal league encourages teamwork and communication within the team. It is a much more fast paced environment than the regular season is, so it is better for practicing and increasing the speed of play. Playing futsal in the pre-season is extremely beneficial and is highly encouraged. It helps improve ball control and it increases agility because it is a much more fast paced environment. Overall, futsal improves skills that are necessary to be successful in the highschool season.
“Futsal helps you prepare for the soccer season by getting you conditioned and working on your foot work,” sophomore Georgia Pluer said.
Futsal is also a great bonding experience because it requires teamwork and constant communication. Due to the size of the court being played on, players are always close together and are talking more. This helps players develop one of the most important skills for the actual season which is communication.
“Futsal is a great bonding experience because you are playing with new teammates and it helps the freshmen feel welcome and makes them less worried about getting to know the upperclassmen,” senior captain Callie Morzy said.
