Lots of globally popular artists have released new albums in the first months of 2025 so far including Drake, The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, and Tate Mcrae.
On Jan. 5, Bad Bunny released his first album since 2023 titled Debí Tirar Más Fotos; the 17 song album has a mix of music ranging from his Puerto Rican heritages, house music, and salsa.
“I liked the new album more than I thought I would because I enjoyed the traditional salsa music added in and I loved that he had a mix of upbeat songs and slower more heartfelt songs,” junior Liliana Ramos said. “I still like his previous music more, but this new album wasn’t a let down”
One of the biggest artists in the world right now is Drake. His new collaboration album with PARTYNEXTDOOR called Some Sexy Songs 4 U peaked number one for the Billboard Hot 200 for albums with popular songs like “NOKIA,” and “DIE TRYING.”
“It doesn’t compare to his older albums like Take Care, Nothing was the same, Thank me later, Views, and more, but it’s pretty good and has a few memorable songs. I like “Gimme a Hug” and “Spider-man Superman.” I’d say the album is a 7.75/10,” junior Dylan Flink said.
Popular pop artist Tate Mcrae released her second studio album this year. The album shot to the top where it remains number one on the Billboard hot 200 for albums being the largest album by first week sales by a female in over 5 months. Along with 11 songs reaching the Billboard hot 100.
“I really liked the new album. I think all the songs are very similar but very different from her previous album, which is very cool. I loved the features, especially having The Kid Laroi on her song “I Know Love,” I know a lot of people wanted him featured so lots of people are probably happy about that one,” senior Samantha Boardman said.
Some would argue that The Weeknd is the biggest music artist in the world right now with the over 126 million monthly listeners on spotify. His new album Hurry Up Tomorrow is fixing to be another big number project for the Weeknd.
“The album was great. It’s definitely different from his normal music, but you can hear the similarities in his old music in songs like ’The Abyss’ with Lana. But the future addition was my favorite part,” sophomore Lilah Martinez said.
