On March 4, the Champions League kicked off with Europe’s top clubs competing for the UCL title. Fans can look forward to the rising stars as their teams finish the group stages and begin the round of 16.
The Champions League is a playoff competition for soccer clubs across Europe. Teams compete against each other to win the UCL title. Each matchup consists of two games which are called Legs, one game will be at home and the other will be away. This tournament shows many teams that have won such as Real Madrid, Liverpool, Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Bayern Munich.
“I watch the Champions League because it’s always been entertaining as fans see the best teams play against each other and cheer to support their teams,” sophomore Kossai Kias said.
The Champions League seeding has set the Round of 16 matchups. Liverpool will face PSG, Barcelona will take on Benfica, Real Madrid will compete against Atlético Madrid, Bayern Munich will go up against Bayern Leverkusen, and other matches that will entertain many fans worldwide.
“I believe Barcelona and Liverpool will meet in the finals due to their teams’ success in the Champions League and their respective leagues,” sophomore Om Patel said. “Barcelona’s incredible offense and Liverpool’s outstanding defense are the main reasons for their success.”
Players have been scoring goals and leading their teams to victory in the Champions League. Some players include Raphinha scoring 9 goals and 4 assists, Serhou Guirassy scoring 10 goals and 3 assists, and Harry Kane scoring 9 goals and 1 assist.
“My favorite player right now is Robert Lewandowski because he has been phenomenal over the past few years and could lead Barcelona to the playoffs alongside Raphinha and Lamine Yamal,” sophomore Ryan Hajewski said.
So far the Champions League has been entertaining to watch as the round of 16 begins where successful teams compete against each other to chase the UCL trophy. The team that shows the best offense, defense, and midfield will be able to lift the trophy, making their franchise and fans thrilled.
