The girl’s basketball team just recently ended their season on Friday, Feb. 28 as they were defeated in the first round of playoffs by the Burlington Demons 60-36. The Panthers finished the season with a 10-13 record, 3-9 in conference, averaging 47 points per game. Although they didn’t have a winning record, there were still positives of the season.
“Overall, we maintained around the same record as the previous seasons I’ve played, but we gained a JV team,” junior Giselle Paszkiewicz said.
Their season was filled with many thrilling moments that kept fans on the edge of their seats. One of the girls’ big wins was beating their rivalry team Greenfield by eight points, 59-51. They also defeated Martin Luther by four, 49-45, and Franklin by four, 57-53.
“The best moments of the season were getting strong wins against teams like Franklin, Martin Luther, and Greenfield,” junior Tatiyana Edwards said.
Most high school teams have many challenges at the beginning of the season, whether that’s getting to know each other, playing style, or the chemistry of the game. The girls went on a three-game winning streak for the first three games of the season but then they had some difficulties and went on a six-game losing streak.
“I am sure everyone faced mental setbacks individually because that’s how it goes in sports, but nothing major as a team,” senior Khloe Pedersen said.
The team’s top three leading scorers were Edwards with 12.2 points per game, Macey St. Lawrence with 10.8 points per game, and Greta Dombrowski with 7.5 points per game.
“I think we improved a lot with scoring compared to last year averaging 45.7 points per game as a team,” junior St. Lawrence said.
