Greendale’s CO-OP boys swim team had an outstanding season, with impressive performances and significant achievements. The Pantherhawk’s season ended with the boys competing at state, where senior Noah Stanford was part of the 200 free-relay, where he finished with a time of 1:29.59.
“It was super fun competing against a bunch of super talented swimmers from all around the state while also going our best time,” Stanford said.
The season wasn’t only successful at state, though. Stanford, Isaiah Springstead, Tommy Lesnjak, and Nicholas Holthaus all had good seasons as well.
The team placed fifth at sectionals, where Holthaus placed 11th in the 100-yard backstroke.
“I’m really pumped about getting 11th at sectionals on the 100 back. I focused on my technique and felt great about my turns and start.” Holthaus said. “Leading up to this race I worked with Coach Mark to perfect my starts, so I could get an advantage against my opponents. I had never done backstroke at the time so I made it my goal for that to be my stroke for the rest of the season. Then during sectionals, I pushed myself on the 100 back which is the hardest I’ve ever swam.”
Some of the swimmers share what they do before a big meet to pump themselves up. These routines have a great effect on their performances and can be the difference between winning and losing, depending on the race.
“I listen to music and drink an energy drink. I also go to bed early the night before and eat a big breakfast,” Stanford said.
A popular way that these swimmers prepare for their races is listening to music.
“I listen to music and just try to psyche myself up,” Lesnjak said.
All in all it was a great season for these boys and lets hope their next one is just as good.
