Greendale baseball looks to have a bounce back season as they are returning 12 players to their squad. Despite a 13-16 record last season the players feel they have a lot to prove this year. With key matchups against Pewuakee and Wisconsin Lutheran the Panthers are looking to sweep them to help secure a conference title this year. They are hoping to win the conference for the first time since 2022. From talking to the players a lot of them will tell you they put in a lot of hard work this offseason preparing for the season.
¨I’ve been going to train every Tuesday and Wednesday for the whole year. Even though it’s been an hour drive both ways, I’ve been dedicated and waiting for the season to start,¨ senior pitcher Ben Hites said.
With nine returning seniors this seems to be the Panthers chance at getting a conference title and a possible state run. The Panthers open up play on April 7 playing against Waukesha South. They start conference play April 10 against Pius. Some key non conference matchups for them will be Franklin, Oak Creek, and Muskego.
Senior Luke Mattes talked about some of the brutal non conference matchups.¨I like playing tough teams. It helps our team get prepared for playoffs where we are gonna have to face those types of teams anyways,¨ Mattes said.
The Panthers schedule at wissports or maxpreps and all the games are free to attend. Also the Panthers feature a couple of collegiate athletes on their team. Senior utility player Caden Meyer who is committed to Carthage is set to have a big season for the team. Some other commits are seniors Cameron Bueno, Jacob Spormann, and Hites. All are elite players destined to lead the Panthers to greatness.
¨ I’m very glad I committed but the job is not finished. I’m gonna bring a state championship to this city for my family and friends,¨ Spormann said.
Tryouts wrapped up and the final roster is set. Make sure to go check the Panthers out on April 7 at the Rock sports at 4:30!
