The Greendale theatre program hosted another musical last month called The Addams Family. The show consisted of multiple contributions from everyone that spanned from the actors, light crew, sound team, the audience and more!
There is plenty of talk about how well the musical went even though they faced many hardships along the way. The actors battling illnesses was a problem for the crew. Some of the lead role actors were battling being sick and some of them managed to persevere and still put on a great show.
“I think the biggest challenges were still the February schedule. Everyone does so much and it’s so busy, after exams, with Florida trips, and then if there’s any illness, that knocks us out for a while. We were hit especially hard with sickness, but had students stay home even towards the end, and still had a great run,” theater teacher Jeff Schaetzke said.
The crowd was very pleased with the performance that the crew put together. Students that aren’t involved with theater really enjoyed the show. There was not a single bad review from the people who watched.
“Me and my friends really liked watching and it was fun seeing our other friends perform,” senior Tess Zaja said.
An actor that was loving the spotlight was senior Ethan Reyes. He played the character Gomez Addams and audience members thought he absolutely killed his role. He was the perfect match to take on this role because he was so engaged with doing his lines and he put some much passion when he used Gomez’s accent. He carried a tone that was easy to listen to and he hit every line on point.
“My favorite scene was when Gomez was showing off his torture chair because he was funny and he had the crowd going,” senior Sawyer Hakow said.
Reyes really enjoyed participating in this musical.
“I think my performance in The Addams Family was my best performance in any show. I think it was the culmination of everything that I have learned and practiced in my time in theater,” Reyes said.
The idea of joining theatre scares a lot of people because they know they have to perform and sing in front of tons of people, which is true but there is far more beyond that. Students that join build connections with new people and find a more artistic side to themselves.
“The best part of theater for me is working with friends to create a show. It’s a great feeling when we can all be a part of a whole production, and I have made so many close friends in theater,” Reyes said.
